Mahalla al-Kubra often shortened to El Maḥalla is a large industrial and agricultural city in Egypt, located in the middle of the Nile Delta on the western bank of the Damietta Branch tributary. It is the largest city of the Gharbia Governorate and the second largest in the Nile Delta, with a population of 535,278 as of 2012.

The city is known for its textile industry and the economy of Mahalla al-Kubra is almost entirely based on the cotton from the surrounding region. One of the leading textile-manufacturing centers of Egypt with its cotton-processing plants and spinning mills, the factories in Mahalla also produce woolens, rayons, knitwear, blankets and hosiery.
